They need to be installed on your computer, not on your website.  All of them can be installed just by clicking – no how-to manuals needed.  Below is a list of tools we use daily to create Miracle Websites, and other websites that we create.

GIMP

Don’t worry, it’s an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program.

It will retouch photos, create header images, and much more.  GIMP is a replacement for the very expensive software program PhotoShop.   It’s a professional tool capable of doing anything you can think of (and a bunch of things you can’t) to images.

It, or it’s expensive equivalent, is usually close at hand for any serious website developer.

FileZilla

FileZilla is one of the most convenient ways to get files to and from your website.  These files might be images, or even an entire folder of stuff.

It’s very easy to set up, we even have a video showing how to do it.

BlueGriffon

BlueGriffon is an HTML editor.   It comes in SUPER handy for altering webpages.

Sometimes you may want to create an HTML table, or some other HTML code; BlueGriffon helps you do that quickly.  It has a graphical design interface that you use to create and alter code.  You will often then just copy and paste that code into another HTML document (like a WordPress page/post).

You just go to your installation URL, and add ‘wp-admin’ at the end.  In this video I use Miracle Websites as an example, so I log in at www.MiracleWebsites.com/wp-admin. 

Once you log in from a computer, WP (WordPress) remembers that IP address, so when you visit your WordPress installation in the future from that computer, most WordPress themes place a ‘Log In’ link near the top of your blog so you can just log in from there.

Additionally, they place an ‘Edit’ link on each page, which is quite convenient. Remember, other visitors to your site, who have never logged in, will not see those links.

Once you are logged in, you can create/edit posts, manage comments, and customize your site.

First, find out what your FTP settings are, and leave that browser tab open so you can enter that info into FileZilla.

The password you are asked for will be the same one that you use to log into your Control Panel.

The File Manager in your Control Panel isn’t capable of transferring folders/directories.

There are several FREE FTP programs/clients available. There’s even a Firefox extension (FireFTP), so you don’t have to leave your browser. I use FireFTP, and was planning on using it for the video below, but I ran into a glitch where it wouldn’t show me the contents of one of my online folders.

So I now use and recomend FileZilla. Why FileZilla?
